Bondage, the art of tying up! - Cheeky Box

Bondage, the art of tying up!

Written by Marie-C. RJ

Misconceptions often lead people to associate the word "bondage" with pain or unsettling sexual practices. However, it is important to take a closer look at the true nature of bondage. In this article, I am aiming to offer a better understanding of this consensual aspect of sexuality.

Part of the BDSM acronym, which stands for bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, and sadism and masochism, the concept of bondage can initially raise certain concerns.  But, bondage, on its own, simply refers to the art of tying or restraining one another. Like any sexual activities, it involves consensual exploration and can be enjoyed as a form of intimacy and trust-building within a relationship.

In the practice of bondage, a range of tools and techniques, such as ropes, handcuffs, straps, hands, or other restraints, are employed to restrict movement of the body. Engaging in bondage can create a sense of vulnerability, trust, and intensified sensory experiences for all participants involved. It entails participating in role-playing scenarios where one partner assumes the role of the dominant, while the other embraces the submissive role. It is important to emphasize that bondage is centered around respect, trust, open communication, and a thorough understanding of each partner's boundaries.  Clear communication and trust-building are essential in this practice. Additionally, it is important to educate oneself about proper techniques, potential risks, and safety precautions before partaking in bondage activities.

The contemporary form of bondage that we are familiar with today has its roots in Japan and is known as Kinbaku or Shibari, which translates to the art of rope bondage. However, the history of Shibari extends even further back; which will be cover in another bog post.

In summary, bondage is a sexual practice that may not appeal to everyone's preferences and that is perfectly fine. It should not be viewed as a means of control or solely for the pleasure of one partner. On the contrary, bondage can be embraced as a sensual form of eroticism that involves open communication and can be mutually beneficial for couples.
